Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is a group of volunteers who serve to oversee four critical functions in the school made up of parents and community leaders.

Strategy

1) Establish, through a strategic planning process inclusive of all members of the KBS Community, the mission and long-term objectives of the school.

Review our 2018-2023 Strategic Plan which outlines our objectives and strategies for education, growth and community partnerships.

Head of School Selection

2) To hire a Head of School who supports the mission of the school and who is in charge of the day-to-day operation of the school, including all matters related to faculty and student performance and safety.

Responsibility

3) To practice the legal and ethical fiduciary responsibility required of a non-profit organization to ensure the financial matters of the school are properly conducted and monitored. The school undergoes an audit of its operations annually, and financial statements are made available to the members of the community.

Committees

4) The Board of Directors operates several committees on which parental participation is encouraged. These are comprised, but not limited to Marketing, Property, Finances, Strategic Planning and Board Governance.

The Board of Directors meets monthly and correspondence to them may be directed through the school by addressing it to the Chair of the Board.

Shamus Rask, Past Chair

Shamus is an engineer, entrepreneur and professional father. He joined the KBS community in 2013 when his son started in senior kindergarten. A large part of the attraction to KBS was the welcoming community. Shamus joined the parent council and sat as chair for several years. During this time he organized “Guys & Small Frys” and several Galas. He was invited to join the Board in 2014 and has served as Chair for the past 4 years. His primary motivation is to always leave things better.

An underlying belief in the value of education brought Barrett and his family to KBS, and his desire to contribute and to leave all things better than he found them, is what has brought him to the Board. Barrett’s love of people, thoughtful nature, and real-world business experience, equip him well for this role.
